Our President, Richard Besley, is pleased to invite you to this year’s Presidents Dinner on Friday, April 25th, to celebrate rugby and mark the conclusion of an exhilarating season. We will also pay tribute to the legacy of Victoria Cross recipients and raise awareness about the essential work of this charity.
Numerous rugby players served honorably during wartime, with some making the ultimate sacrifice. In World War I alone, 133 international rugby players lost their lives, including four members of England’s Five Nations-winning scrum from 1914. Notably, one of them, Ronnie Poulton-Palmer, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
Keith Lumley from the Victoria Cross Trust will give a brief speech regarding the charity's mission and how supporters can become involved. He will also bring a genuine Victoria Cross medal, providing us with a rare opportunity to view this emblem of extraordinary bravery up close.
