Head Coach

Background
After their recent promotion to the newly formed Regional 2 North East League (Level 6), Selby RUFC are looking to appoint an experienced Head Coach or Player Coach to report to the Director of Rugby and lead the senior men’s coaching team.

Selby RUFC will be celebrating their 90th year and proudly run a successful mini-juniors section, junior player development programme, a women’s and four senior men’s teams. This role is part time, consisting of training on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with games played on Saturdays.

Job role
To assist the Director of Rugby and coaching team in the planning, preparation and delivery of the senior men’s rugby programme.

Key responsibilities

  • To assist in the planning and delivery of the men’s rugby programme.
  • To lead and deliver in areas off and on field as agreed with the Director of Rugby.
  • To provide input into the weekly men’s senior selection meeting.
  • To individually support players in their personal development, working with them to improve their areas of weakness and continue to grow in their areas of strength.
  • To contribute and input into the recruitment of players as agreed with the Director of Rugby.
  • To proactively review and analyse games, providing team and individual feedback.
  • Support and align to the team values and the values of the game.

Key qualities

  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Motivator of people and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to communicate with players both on and off the pitch.
  • Strong knowledge of current rugby union coaching and training practices.
  • To be constantly looking to improve own coaching practice.
  • Detailed technical and tactical knowledge of rugby.
  • Display personal discipline, pride and selflessness.

Essentials to the Role

  • To plan and deliver senior training on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings and attend fixtures on Saturday afternoons throughout pre-season and in season.
  • Proven rugby coaching/playing experience at Level appropriate to the role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current coaching and training processes.
  • Minimum RFU Level 2 Coaching Award. Preferably Level 3 qualified or working towards a Level 3 qualification.

This is a part-time, paid position with the salary based on experience and qualifications and will be discussed at interview. In addition, the Club, would be prepared to support coaching course fees and CPD for the right candidate.
