On a sunny day at Driffield, Selby faced a tough test against a physically dominant home side. Despite the conditions being perfect for rugby, Selby were forced to "weather a storm" of Driffield’s relentless physicality and ball control.
Driffield opened the scoring with an early try, pushing the score to 5-0 before extending it to 12-0. Selby found their footing in a strong 10-minute spell, with Henry Wright celebrating his birthday in style by crossing the line to bring the score to 12-7. Selby continued to show determination, and after some slick play out wide, Dan Reid dotted down for Selby’s second try.
However, Driffield's strength across the park proved too much, and they pulled away in the later stages, securing a 44-14 victory.
Selby’s efforts in patches gave hope for the upcoming games. The team will take a rest next week before facing Heath at Sandhill Lane on 12 October.
Currently 9th in the league, Selby will be eager to bounce back against Heath, who sit 11th in the standings.
